New leaflet: Vote Yes for strike action on pay & conditions

The NEC has taken the decision to ballot all LUL members over pay & conditions.

We will not accept an either/or offer that asks us to chose between protecting our pay or addressing fatigue and working hours.

Please circulate this new leaflet. There are printed copies available at Unity House from Thursday 5 March. Please ensure every workplace has copies in the mess rooms and on notice boards.

Pay - Full & final offer from LUL is not enough plus Anti-union laws and Mayoral election

Pay & Conditions

We have told LUL that their full and final offer is not enough.

We cannot accept an offer that fails to deal with the unacceptable rosters that many members are having to work. We've given management the evidence - our shift working cuts the life expectancy of our members by 4/5 years. Management say we'll only address that if you pay for it. Imagine if they asked us to take a pay cut to cover the costs of PPE or asbestos removal! We can't accept their position.

LUL Pay & Conditions

A meeting of L2 reps from all functions agreed that we press LUL for an offer that contains and acceptable pay settlement as well as a significant cut in hours. I will now await an update from the RO.

Justice for Stations

Support our ABM Cleaners

Hope to see members from all functions on the cleaners demo at Parliament tomorrow.

The demonstration will take place on Wednesday 29 January at 13:00 opposite Old Palace Yard at the Houses of Parliament.

I recently attended a meeting with RMT's parliamentary group where the MPs agreed to write to the London Mayor in support of our demands that the Mayor immediately grants staff travel facilities to all cleaners.

Message to all L1 RMT Reps: Problem Rosters

All,

Most L1 reps will have had my previous email on this subject but I have updated my list so a few of you will be getting this for the first time.

The issue of achieving better roster balance in terms of extreme shifts and weekend rest days was put at the centre of talks about additional jobs.

We now have a published proposal for 325 new jobs. This is testament to the work done by reps and members in delivering our stations strike in January. We must now ensure that the new jobs we’ve won are used to meet the demands of our members.

LUL Make their Proposal to Utilise 325 Additional Jobs

At SFC today LU gave us their proposal to utilise the 325 additional jobs agreed as a result of our strike action earlier this year.

An SFC News with some initial thoughts on the proposal will be sent out soon.

We will be spending 4 weeks looking at the plans at SFC level and then rosters will be produced and looked at L1.

Representation Levels on Stations: Latest Position

Management continue to refuse to recognise our reps in many areas. This is a clear and obvious breach of the agreement made in March 2000 on our machinery of negotiation.

RMT will continue to elect our full entitlement of reps on stations.

Members have the right to ask for whoever they want to accompany them to LDIs, Case Conferences etc. Therefore managers cannot refused to release any rep who a member has specifically asked for.

Talks continue to identity additional staffing needs

Talks are continuing as part of seven day review of staffing level. We've outlined need for more staff to meet key objectives: Staff in control rooms, safety and security in larger stations, reduce lone working and unstaffed local stations, improve roster balance.
LU have again stated that additional jobs can be created to meet these objectives. They will respond more fully on Friday.
