What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

Trainpeople Workers Vote Yes For Strike Action

That we note the result of the ballot for strikes is as follows:-

Total Votes Cast - 17
Number Voting ‘Yes’ - 17
Number Voting ‘No’ - 0
Spoilt Papers - 0

We congratulate our members on their willingness to take action and for their tireless campaigning alongside their many supporters. We instruct the General Secretary to continue to support campaigning events organised by our Bakerloo branch, and to obtain and place in front of us a report on appropriate industrial action following the branch's next meeting on Monday 4 February.

We note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd stating that following representations by this union, LUL will hold a workshop for Trainpeople members to prepare them for applying for LUL jobs.

We reaffirm our view that LUL should have offered permanent employment to these members during the time of Trainpeople's assignment on LUL and having failed to do so then, should do so now.

We note correspondence from London Underground Ltd contesting our argument that it has fallen short of its legal obligations to the Trainpeople staff. We instruct the General Secretary to seek the views of our Trainpeople members as to the accuracy of LUL's assertions, and to place in front of us an update on progress with the legal situation.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.
