Resolution: Childcare Expenses

LU Engineering branch submits the following resolution for discussion at the next meeting of the Regional Council.

This branch notes that the Regional Council pays £15 to the cost of child care for those attending the LT Regional Council Meetings. We believe that this should be changed to be the full amount of the cost. This belief is based on low take up and therefore overall cost of the scheme and that it is several years since this was altered and costs have risen.

Resolution: Revised Pay Offer

This resolution, submitted by Neasden branch and seconded by LU Engineering branch, was passed unanimously at the Regional Council meeting on 30 April 2009.

The Regional Council notes that LUL have now increased their 5-year pay offer to include increases of RPI plus 0.5% in years 2-5.

This offer remains entirely unacceptable in terms of both pay and the continued TfL redundancy process and withdrawal from no redundancy agreements that previously applied to all members.

Resolution: Blame the bosses and the bankers - jobs for all - workers should not pay for the crisis

This resolution, submitted by LU Fleet and TfL no.1 branches, was passed at the April meeting of the Regional Council, with 10 votes in favour, none against and 3 abstentions.

The economic crisis threatens the jobs and living standards of billions of people across the world. It is essential that the trade union and labour movement fights to prevent the bosses and governments making workers pay for their crisis.

The Politics of Flu

The World Health Organisation, backed by Western leaders, argues that pandemics can be contained by the rapid responses of medical bureaucracies. The idea is that the strain is identified and then dealt with by local populations getting enough anti-viral drugs.

Rather than working together to produce a vaccination for each new flu strain, which is unprofitable for the pharmaceutical companies because many new flu strains don’t reach pandemic level, governments tend to rely on generic anti-virals such as Tamiflu.
