JUSTICE FOR THE 33
We are demonstrating today in support of the J33, workers who were sacked just before Christmas 2012.
They wore London Underground uniforms and carried out the same day to roles of London Underground staff for almost 5 years. Is it just a coincidence that these workers who originally were on the minimum wage, joined the RMT to fight for justice and won the right for equal treatment under the 'Agency Workers Legislation'. As soon as they stood up for their rights they were sacked.
They were employed by Trainpeople one of the agencies that LU/Tfl use, these agencies make millions of pounds out of exploiting workers such as the 33. The RMT wants to drive agencies out of the Underground, but we are asking that the workers be given a job. We are against the agencies but for the agency workers.
We stand against workers being treated like lemons, squeezed out and then thrown away. There are now over 1 million workers in Britain on zero hour contracts. We demand that all workers are brought in-house on the same contracts and conditions as the workers they work along side. We demand that workers are not discriminated against when they stand up for themselves and join a union. Most of the 33 are black or from an ethnic minority, it is the experience of many of these workers that they are doubly exploited.
