Vote YES to defend your pension

Dear Colleague,

TFL PENSION FUND - INDEPENDENT REVIEW

You need to vote YES in the ballot to defend your pension. We can't let the Government and TfL leave you in poverty when you retire.

I refer to my previous email of 10th November 2021, you will now be aware that the RMT have formally informed TfL management that we are now in dispute with them over jobs, pensions and working conditions and as a result over 10,000 of our members across LUL and TfL are currently being balloted for industrial action.

As we have previously advised pensions are deferred wages and while management, and the Review Team headed by Sir Brendan Barber, would like you to believe that the TfL Pension Fund needs reforming because that is what other employers are doing with their Defined Benefit pension schemes this is simply not the case. We would remind you that the TfL Pension Fund is currently going through a full valuation and it would appear that the results will indicate that the pension scheme is fully funded. Therefore, any changes would be unnecessary and totally unacceptable.

Therefore, we need our members to send a clear message to management that they will not accept any attacks on any of their conditions in particular pensions. This can be simple achieved by our members taking the time to vote and voting YES for strike action. Every single member needs to vote because if the balloting fresh holds are not met then the ballot process will collapse which will give a green light to Government and Management that they can do whatever they want which includes making our members poorer in retirement by changings members future service pension benefits. There will be no second chance because once members pension benefits are changed, they are changed for good.

The ballot process will close on 10th January 2022 so if you have not received your ballot paper by 4th January 2022 or if you know of a colleague who has not received theirs, please email us at info@rmt.org.uk or contact the RMT Helpline on 0800 376 3706 and a replacement ballot paper will be sent out to your home address first class post.

We understand that during this festive season our minds are turned to family, friends and loved ones but the best present any member could give themselves this Christmas is voting yes in defence of jobs, pensions and working conditions.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTE - RETURN YOUR BALLOT PAPER

VOTE 'YES' FOR STRIKE ACTION AND 'YES' FOR ACTION SHORT OF A STRIKE

I will keep you informed of developments.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
