What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Considers LU Olympics Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note the offer from London Underground, of an additional £350 lump sum payment to all operational staff in each of the following functions, dependant on the trade unions agreeing to changes in working practices detailed in the correspondence:

  • Asset Performance Directorate
  • Stations and Revenue Control
  • Service Control including Duty Reliability Managers
  • Operational Managers in COO and APD, including Network Operational Learning Trainers

We note that this is in addition to the previous offer of £20 per shift for attendance during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It also appears from the correspondence that LU is also offering the usual £100 that it offers for meeting a ‘Customer Satisfaction Survey’ target for this quarter, with only the means of measuring it differing from usual practice.

We note that a meeting is due to take place on Friday 16 March, with LU having released representatives only from the above functions to attend. We wish our representatives to have the fullest possible opportunity to consider this offer and the accompanying changes to working practices and to consult their members. We therefore instruct the General Secretary to arrange for the full offer, including all appendices, to be sent immediately by email and by first-class post to all our London Underground representatives, and to chairs and secretaries of branches with London Underground members, and for it to be placed on the union’s website.
