RMT Circular: Kevin Mortell

DISMISSAL- K.MORTELL, TRAIN OPERATOR, WHITE CITY, (LUL/4/1)

Dear Colleague

I regret to advise you that the ballot to reinstate Brother Mortell must be rerun due to an administrative error With the Anti Trade Union laws being so incredibly restrictive we cannot risk the company challenging the previous ballot and declaring any industrial action called from it illegal. Therefore the safest course of action is to re run the ballot and I offer my sincere apologies to for this error.

As previously advised, Brother Kevin Mortell was dismissed from his job as a Train Operator at White City. Kevin is the latest victim of LUL’s practice of economic dismissals in their attempt to reduce Train Operator numbers with management stating they have 300 drivers more than they need. Brother Kevin Mortell had a totally clear record with LUL and was then sacked over one incident. In many other cases staff have been treated much more leniently than Kevin and we are demanding that Kevin is immediately and unconditionally reinstated as a Train Operator.

Ballot papers will be sent out to our White City Train Operator members on Wednesday 11th August 2010 and I urge all members involved to vote strongly in favour of action to defend their colleague. The Ballot closes on Tuesday 24th August 2010.

Yours Sincerely

Bob Crow General Secretary
