To: ALL LONDON UNDERGROUND RMT MEMBERS
Dear RMT Member
RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2025 - LONDON UNDERGROUND
Your Regional Organiser and functional reps met with LUL today (Wednesday) to seek an improvement to the current pay and conditions offer. Unfortunately, management refused to make any changes to the current offer.
Once again, LUL has dragged its feet and we have been forced to ballot our members and take strike action in an effort to get a fair offer for a pay deal that should have been applied to your pay back in April.
The need to make progress towards a reduced working week has been an important part of our claim in 2025. We have not seen a reduction in working hours for 20 years and increased workload and more extreme turns have brought this matter to a head again. Management have responded to our demand for a shorter working week with a cynical proposal to discuss the matter on the basis of zero cost and with no additional time away fom work. RMT knows that, whenever LUL talks about changes in working patters, it uses the issue to cut jobs and introduce more flexible working. We have seen this in stations and now with Trains Modernisation hidden behind a so-called 4-day week.
Your negotiators have insisted that LUL offer a real reduction in time at work that can be a part of addressing the crucial issues of fatigue, long-term health and work/life balance.
As you know, the extension of Priv travel on the mainline was an important part of the 2023 pay deal. I regret to tell you that in today's meeting there was still no proposal from LUL for its implementation.
In the absence of any progress towards meeting RMT's demands on these matters, your strike action remains on.
Yours sincerely,
Eddie Dempsey
General Secretary
