Night Tube strike suspended

To: ALL RMT TRAIN OPERATOR AND INSTRUCTOR OPERATOR MEMBERS

20 August 2021

STRIKE ACTION SUSPENDED

Dear colleague

ABOLITION OF NIGHT TUBE TRAIN OPERATOR GRADE - LONDON UNDERGROUND

Negotiations have taken place throughout this week at conciliation service Acas. Following today's session of talks, the company set out its latest position, which can be summarised as follows:

A commitment to undertake work on the feasibility of an opt out system for night tube duties

A commitment to re-start talks into the principle of recruitment of T026 staff to address the overall balance of weekends

Recognising RMT concerns over work-life balance, a commitment to produce rosters to give an indication on the actual position of night tube weekends.

Your RMT negotiating team reported that these commitments have gone some way in addressing the concerns of you and your colleagues in this dispute and as such warrant further development/discussion.  Your negotiators, however, expressed their strong view that RMT should remain in dispute. On the basis that sufficient progress has been made, they recommended that the RMT National Executive Committee considers the following decisions/actions:

  • To suspend the planned industrial action commencing from 12:00 (noon) on 24.8.21 until 11.59 on 25.8.21
  • To suspend the planned industrial action commencing from 12:00 (noon) on 26.8.21 until 11.59 on 27.8.21
  • To remain in dispute regarding this matter until agreement is reached around these crucial issues.

Your NEC has noted the developments and endorsed the above recommendations. You are therefore instructed to work normally on the dates mentioned above.

I want to thank your reps and all affected members on London Underground whose hard work, resolve and unity has been decisive in terms of the progress we have been able ?to achieve so far.

I will of course keep you advised of all further developments as they arise.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
