Night Tube Strike Details

RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE AND NIGHT RUNNING – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/0001)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/181/15, 31st July 2015), RMT members have already taken part in two separate 24-hour strikes and other forms of on-going industrial action which have been solidly supported and meant that no London Underground services ran on Thursday 9th July or Thursday 6th August.

The on-going overtime ban is also having a drastic impact on management’s ability to run a service as members are no longer available to cover the obvious staffing shortfalls and the District Line was suspended this morning due to a lack of available trains.

Following a number of resolutions received from Branches, our Reps met at Unity House to discuss an escalation of the action, including a possible 48-hour strike. This matter has now been further considered by the General Grades Committee, which has taken the decision to call on members to take part in the industrial action detailed below.

All LU members, excluding Train Operators And Instructor Operators are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between:-

18:30 hours on Tuesday 25th August 2015 and 18:29 hours on Wednesday 26th August 2015.

18:30 hours on Thursday 27th August 2015 and 18:29 hours on Friday 28th August 2015.

Train Operator and Instructor Operator members are instructed not to book on for any shifts that commence between: -

21:00 hours on Tuesday 25th August 2015 and 20:59 hours Wednesday 26th August 2015.

21:00 hours on Thursday 27th August 2015 and 20:59 hours on Friday 28th August 2015.

As before, this action is also in conjunction with members in other Unions. The previous strike action has prompted further discussions to take place at ACAS over this dispute but as you are aware, LUL has not tabled a proposal that would meet members’ demands over pay and night running and as a result, the decision has been taken to call a longer period of industrial action.

LUL can be in no doubt over how seriously we take this matter and the threat of extended strike action, which I am sure will be as well supported as before and see a total shutdown of the service, will hopefully prompt management into tabling proposals which are worthy of consideration and can be recommended for acceptance by members.

A further meeting of Reps, Regional Officers and GGC members has been arranged to take place on Monday 17th August at Unity House to discuss both this dispute and the Every Job Matters dispute and I will keep you advised of all further developments.
