RMT has received massive support and solidarity messages for the campaign against cuts on London Underground:

TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber has thrown the weight of entire Labour movement behind our action, he has said: “Workers on the tube are understandably concerned that the cuts proposed for the underground will compromise safety for both the public and staff. We fully support the action staff are taking and call on the Mayor to engage in serious negotiations to resolve this dispute."

RMT & TSSA members have also received numerous messages of support on behalf of millions of workers, including from the general secretaries of the following unions:

The NUJ is pleased to support the efforts of RMT members working on London underground, to safeguard passenger safety and the service as a whole. Boris Johnson’s proposed cuts will see scores of ticket office staff made redundant, ticket offices opening hours slashed and safety, particularly at already isolated stations, further compromised. Pensioners’ organisations, disabled groups and passenger groups, including the Independent Passenger Watchdog, London Travel Watch have asked London Underground to reconsider the cuts. For example London Travel Watch has said: “...we know that passengers feel safer and more secure with a staff presence and many passengers - the elderly, those with physical impairments or learning difficulties, as well as those unfamiliar with the system – will still rely on help to buy tickets. We are very worried that their needs will be neglected.”

The former Mayor of the London, the majority of London Assembly members, and numerous London MPs are opposed to the jobs cull and have called on the Mayor to stop the cuts and sit down and negotiate with the trade unions.

The powerful International Transport Workers Federation, representing millions of workers worldwide has expressed full support for the strike action and warned that the Mayors cuts are damaging London’s international reputation and could jeopardise the Olympic Games.
