What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

Relationship With The United Nations

That we have received correspondence from the TUC we would not be able to have a representative from the RMT on the United Nations. However the ILO which is a sub-committee of the United Nations as
representatives from the international trade union movement who in turn are nominated by the BTUC if a member has a specific principled issues of a global matter we can raise them through these channels.

Branch and Regional Councils to be advised.

Rmt Representation At Btuc Lgbt Conference (Gender Quotas)

That we note the resolution and that we filled all the positions this year. The Council of Executives to keep this under review with the principle that we have a full delegation noting that we filled the delegation with two men and two women.

Venues Of Rmt Lgbt National Advisory Committee Meetings

That we note the resolution but in line with other advisory committees it is not practicable to hold the meetings outside London due to staff, Council of Executive and Officer movements to these meetings. It would be more practicable to hold the meetings in the Head Office of the Union.

National Black And Ethnic Minority Members Adivsory Committee Deputy

That we disagree with the resolution and the General Secretary is to explain the reasons why we disagree at the next Black and Ethnic Minority Members Advisory Committee meeting.

Role Of Local Black And Ethnic Minority Secretary

That we note that every black and ethnic member has the right to stand democratically as a delegate to the Black and Ethnic Minority Members’ Advisory Committee not as a given right to be on the Committee if you are a Secretary. The General Secretary to explain the reasons why we cannot proceed with this resolution at the next Black and Ethnic Minority Members Advisory Committee meeting.”

Liaison Officer Post

That we note and support this resolution but there is already a process in place e.g. Branch and Union structure to deal with these matters.

Police Brutality And Deaths At The Hands Of The Police

That we note the resolution and as a union we oppose all forms of brutality and we will look at each campaign on its merit that seeks to pursue our union policies.

Police Corruption

That we note and support this resolution and we will work with the trade union movement and community groups to prosecute such matters.

Black And Ethnic Minority Executives

That we note this resolution is not relevant anymore as there will be no merger with the TSSA for the foreseeable future. However if a Branch with supporting nominations wanted to change the Rules they could have used the structure of the Union to change to do so. The General Secretary to explain this position at the next Black and Ethnic Minority Members Committee.
