NEC report to RMT Disabled Members' Advisory Committee meeting, October 2019
 
EQUAL RIGHTS SUB-COMMITTEE REPORT
 
2 resolutions were passed at the last National Disabled Members’ Advisory Committee (1 July 2019): Accessibility of RMT Publications, and Inclusive Union Forms. They have been considered by the NEC and the decisions are as follows.
 
i) Accessibility of RMT Publications
The NEC noted and adopted the following report from the Equal Rights Sub-Committee (6th September 2019):
“We note that we are currently looking at how technology can be used to make our services more accessible. In the meantime, if a member requests a publication in a different format this can be provided.”
 
ii) Inclusive Union Forms
The NEC noted and adopted the following report from the Equal Rights Sub-Committee (6th September 2019):
“We note that the resolution and that our forms are designed to capture the information we need to provide our services.
We will continue to strive to use technology to make these forms more accessible. In the meantime should any member request assistance in filling in these forms this will be provided.”
 
Disabled Members’ Advisory Committee – Constitution and Standing Orders
This item was referred to the Organisation, Training and Education Sub-Committee. The NEC noted and adopted their report (24th September 2019):
“That we adopt the proposed standing orders and constitution.”
 
Updates on previously reported motions:
 
a) Personality Testing
As instructed, companies have been written to asking them to review their use of psychometric testing bringing to their attention the case law on the matter. The TUC has also been contacted for further information on the matter.
This file is to be placed back before the NEC with any responses by the December statutory meeting.
 
b) Disabilities Officers
The Circular has been sent to branches and regions encouraging them to create the post of Disabilities Officer.
 
c) Work Programmes for Learning Disabled and/or Autistic People
All Regional Organisers have been asked to check with employers that if they run such schemes participants are paid.
