RMT Young Members Camp London 19/10/12

RMT Young Members Camp

With Young members coming down to London from all over the UK for the TUC October the 20th demonstration- ‘A Future that Works’ the young members decided to set up a camp in the grounds of Maritime house, Clapham Common.

Young members are in the business of breaking down barriers which prevent young people getting involved in activities which are central to them. Our regional young member officers and your young member representatives on the national young members advisory committee had said that the biggest barrier to young member participating in the demo was the cost of accommodation in central London. So setting up a camp where young members could rock up, have a spot of dinner with like minded young people by a blazing camp fire and have a bed for the night for free made complete sense.

RMT To Provide Support To Taxi Members Harassed Over Display Of 'Identifier Tags' And To Assist London Taxi Driver Branch In Recruitment Plan

We note the meeting concerning this issue held on 20 September, and instruct the General Secretary to provide legal support to those taxi driver members who experience harassment arising from the display of identifier tags.

We further instruct the General Secretary to ensure that our London Taxi Drivers’ branch is provided with support and resources for its forthcoming recruitment campaign, which will include coverage of RMT’s campaigning work and support for suburban (‘yellow badge’) taxi drivers and well as green badge drivers.

RMT Educational Courses 2013

From RMT General Secretary Bob Crow

I am very pleased to confirm the RMT Education Centre will be opening the additional building development to the existing Education Centre on the 23rd November 2012. This additional facility effectively doubles our education and training support to our Unions members. To reflect this expanded facility I am attaching the 2013 education programmes for both of the teaching rooms now available at the RMT Education Centre in Doncaster. The programme again is a progression from 2012 and the Council of Executives remain committed to providing the best education and training support for our members and officials.

RMT Demands An End To Agencies, With Workers Given Permanent Jobs Instead

We believe that railway employers are increasingly using agencies such as Trainpeople, in order to casualise the workforce, prepare for job cuts, and undermine our power to take effective strike action. The use of agencies is part of the employers’ and government’s strategy for pursuing the McNulty proposals.

We believe that every railway worker is entitled to a permanent, secure job. We therefore demand an end to the use of agencies, with their employees offered direct employment with the railway company at which they work.

Community Groups And Unions Call For Free, Community Led Pride

This is the TUC press release of a recent meeting of the future of pride which was attended by several union and community group representatives including the RMT's LGBT Officer

In the aftermath of the problems that afflicted London's World Pride earlier this month, community groups and LGBT trade unionists have confirmed their support for a national Pride to be held in central London, an event that is free and accessible to all, and a celebration as well as a demand for equality.
