What the Regional Council is doing to improve RMT organisation on London Transport, to recruit, retain and involve members

Resolution to September Regional Council meeting: Eastern European migrant workers

Proposed by the Regional Council Executive Committee

We note that from 1 January 2014, restrictions will be lifted on Bulgarian and Romanian citizens coming to the UK to live and work. Those people who do so are likely to find themselves in the lowest-paid, most insecure jobs. Many of these jobs will be in London Transport, for example in contracted-out cleaning, catering and engineering functions.

This image from a recent meeting shows a well organised workforce who are demanding to be treated with respect and are strong enough to take management on if necesary.

'Stand Back' delivering a powerful message another way

We are constantly looking for new ways to communicate our message to other workers, members and the public.

A branch of the Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) who represent transport workers in New York City have created a unique rap video urging passengers to stand back.

Revenue & Station Grades Meeting 28th Of March 2013

Comrades;

As many know, London Underground is in the process of engineering another jobs attack. The RMT is taking a proactive stance in preparations for the changes, and part of this is to renew solidarity amongst all grades. Now more than ever it is vital that we reinvigorate our members and show an energised union presence in the workplace.

A major opportunity to do this is at our monthly Station Staff Recruitment and Retention day. I write you to request that you would send some representatives from your group and branch to our next Station Staff Recruitment and Retention day.
