TfL ordered to retain former Silverlink ticket offices at several locations

Statutory London passenger body orders Transport for London to keep some ticket offices open after RMT campaign.

RAIL UNION RMT can reveal today that after a careful review, London TravelWatch has ordered Transport for London to keep a number of former Silverlink ticket offices open - thereby throwing into question the credibility of TfL’s entire ticket office closure programme.

Breakdown of industrial relations leads to Piccadilly strike ballot

TUBE UNION RMT confirmed today that it is to ballot nearly 400 train operators across the Piccadilly Line for both strike action and action short of a strike over a comprehensive breakdown in industrial relations combining a range of issues. The ballot will open on Monday 22nd February and close on Tuesday 8th March.‎

 The Piccadilly is the fourth busiest line on the London Underground network transporting an average of 600,000 passengers a day and services London’s Heathrow airport – the busiest airport in Europe.

First phase of track safety 'Section 15' strike suspended

RMT suspends first phase of strike action in tube safety dispute.

Tube union RMT confirmed today that a first phase in a programme of industrial action involving nearly 1500 maintenance and renewals staff on London Underground and Tube Lines, in a fight over basic safety issues relating to what are known as “Section 15 possessions”, has been suspended after the union received confirmation that changes will be put on hold for two weeks to allow for a comprehensive safety review.

Taxi drivers demonstrate against regulator TfL

On Wednesday 10 February taxi drivers re-dedicate themselves to a campaign of protests to highlight their sorrow and now rage at the regulatory capture of taxi authority Transport for London.

The first of a series of steadily escalating demonstrations will see RMT and other bodies representing taxis stage a ‘go slow’ outside No.10 Downing Street, with activities focused between 2:30 - 4pm.

The Transport for London Bill was introduced into Parliament to allow TfL to participate in novel company structures – including opaque, tax avoiding offshore structures that are well-known vehicles for laundering capital. Specifically, TfL intended to jump head first into the worst kind of corporate structures known as “Limited Partnerships” to maximise the profit it hoped to make from developing the land it owns above and around stations.

RMT announces seven blocks of strike action by tube maintenance staff in fight over safety

RMT to hold referendum over tube pay and Night Tube offer

RMT to ballot London Underground staff over pay and Night Tube offer with recommendation to accept

Tube union RMT has confirmed today that it will be conducting a referendum ballot of members across London Underground over the latest offer from the company on pay and night tube.

The ballot will open on the 11th February and the union executive is recommending acceptance of the offer.
 

 

RMT to hold pre strike talks with tube bosses over station strike

RMT says that if crunch talks at Director level on weekend tube strike fail today dispute will be escalated immediately to ACAS.

TUBE UNION RMT said today that if crunch talks at Director level over this weekend’s 48 hour station staffing strike fail this morning then the matter will be referred immediately to ACAS as the clock ticks down towards Saturdays action.

RMT will be in talks through the Company Council framework this morning over the action that affects the jobs and futures of five thousand staff caught in the middle of the ticket office and job cuts programme.

RMT blames “poisonous cocktail of cuts and overcrowding” for huge rise in injuries on London Underground

Tube union RMT today blasted the “poisonous cocktail of cuts and overcrowding as an FOI request by the website London Loves Business revealed an increase in over 400% in platform injuries on London Underground.

The research shows that in 2003, a grand total of 56 “Platform/Train Interface” incidents were recorded. This number has increased every year to 2014 (the last full set of figures available), when an astonishing 298 such incidents were recorded.

This is an increase in the number of accidents of 432% overall.

RMT statement on Piccadilly Line

An RMT spokesperson said; "Late last night RMT reps received a guarantee from the LU chief rolling stock engineer that the root cause of the fault on the Piccadilly Line doors has been identified and tests to assure the safety of the fleet by the appropriate specialists have been carried out.

"An enhanced system check for door engine failures will be introduced with immediate effect . RMT reps will continue to take part in additional investigations on the failure this morning.
