Haiti Earthquake

The statement below from the Haiti Support Group gives some of the social and political backgrond to the devastating loss of life in Haiti. It shows that although earthquakes are natural, the scale of their impact is largely down to social and political factors. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones, and we are looking for opportunities to help trade unions and other progressive organisations in the mammoth tasks that face them.

LU use recession as cover to undermine jobs and safety

We all know that there is a recession. We have witnessed it first hand with this year’s pay cut and the sacking of our members just to reduce staffing numbers.
But not all companies necessarily view a recession as a bad thing. What LU are doing is hiding behind the recession and using it as a excuse to cut our pay, slash jobs and introduce unsafe working practices.

New Year, where's the cheer?

SOSSo after the pay has been settled in time for Christmas we start the new year looking forward to the impending major attacks on staffing levels across all stations which will impact immensely on ours and customers safety. London Underground in an attempt to claw back money from its fatal PPP collapse is making us pay for its incompetence.

Resolution: London Underground Pay Dispute

The following resolution, submitted by Hammersmith and City branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was passed at the Regional Council meeting on 28 January 2010.

This Regional Council Condemns the General Grades Committee’s decision to settle the 2009/10 pay dispute.

The membership had returned a 2-1 vote in favour of strike action and a 5-1 vote in favour of action short of a strike.

This showed that our members were not in favour of this deal and also showed members did not accept LUL management lies, intimidation and propaganda.
