Mass meeting for ABM members - No to 'Project Lean'

CHANGES TO WORK LOCATIONS AND ADDITIONAL WORKLOADS (PROJECT LEAN) - ABM (LUL) (LUL/15/4)

MASS MEETING WEDNESDAY 2ND AUGUST from 4-5PM

INDIAN YMCA (K T Paul Hall), 41 FITZROY SQUARE, W1T 6AQ

ABM has commenced a review of responsibilities and work locations under the heading 'Project Lean' and members report being pressurised into accepting increased workloads and additional work locations. This matter was raised by RMT at the initial Joint Negotiating Board meeting under our new Collective Bargaining Agreement and despite assurances received, it appears that ABM is breaching our machinery by attempting to impose changes to working arrangements.

I wrote to the Company to demand that all implementation of 'Project Lean', including any meetings with individuals, is halted immediately and that a thorough review takes place with the formation of a working group to examine any rebalancing process.  As a union, we require more specific details regarding the locations affected, members involved, the process implemented, risk assessment measures, equality assurance plans and a breakdown of the rebalancing plan.

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter again and taken the decision to organise a mass meeting of Members, Reps, Branches, the Assistant General Secretary and NEC Member. Also to task the LTRC Cleaning Grades Committee with leading the way on communications, training sessions, phone banking and workshops, with the aim of increasing membership and density in the workplace.

I will keep Branches advised of all further developments.
