Better Jobs. Better Services. End Rail Outsourcing - Online Rally, Wednesday 7th May 2025, 6.00pm

RMT campaigning has helped ensure that much of our railways are being returned to public ownership.

This progress now needs to be used as a platform to end outsourcing - and end the profiteering of outsourcing companies whose profits are made on the backs of thousands of outsourced workers.

Outsourcing companies employ cleaners, caterers, security guards, revenue protection staff and workers on station gatelines. Sub-contractors engage many thousands of rail infrastructure workers on various forms precarious contracts.

RMT outsourced members know that outsourcing leads to poor jobs and services. Over 80% of outsourced members say they struggle to make ends meet and also come to work even when not well enough to do so. A similar number say that outsourcing leads to a poorer service for passengers as they are under constant pressure to cut corners. 

Over 80% of outsourced workers believe ending rail outsourcing would lead to better services. Better Jobs mean Better Services.

As part of our ongoing campaigning for outsourced workers your union is launching a new campaign for better jobs and better services, to make the case to end rail outsourcing and bring outsourced rail and tube workers back in -house.

At an online rally on 7th May I will explain how we will be taking the campaign forward and we will be joined by supportive politicians and other speakers from the trade union movement to make the case to end outsourcing across the wider transport sector and public services.
