Tripcock Testing to be Cut?!

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the resolution from our LU Fleet branch, and share the shock and alarm expressed by the branch that London Underground could even consider reducing the frequency of tripcock testing. The tripcock is an essential safety mechanism which stops a train in the event of it passing a signal at danger, therefore preventing crashes and protecting life.

As requested by the branch, we instruct the General Secretary to immediately demand a meeting with the Chair of London Underground’s Directors Risk and Assurance Change Control Committee (DRACC) to hear an explanation from LU of its actions and to demand that this proposal is removed from the company’s plans.

A report of this meeting to be placed in front of us, and if the meeting has not been scheduled within seven days, this matter is to be placed back in front of us.

We further instruct the General Secretary to write to all our branches with LU train driver members, advising them of this proposal and the dangerous safety implications that this will have for them when driving their trains.
