RMT oppose imposition of Night Tube duties on main rostern

27th October 2021

TO ALL LONDON UNDERGROUND TRAIN OPERATORS AND INSTRUCTOR OPERATORS

Dear Colleagues

ABOLITION OF NIGHT TUBE TRAIN OPERATOR GRADE – LONDON UNDERGROUND

I am writing further to my letter of 24th August 2021 and following notification from London Underground that they intend to resume Night Tube services on the Central Line and Victoria Line from Friday 26th November 2021.

Your lead officer has submitted a report to your National Executive Committee on the matter, and on the imposition of a roster with Night Tube duties to be undertaken by TO21 staff. Members will recall that the previous planned industrial action had been suspended based on progress made at talks through the conciliation service ACAS and on LUL providing commitments to further talks and to review the Night Tube duties based on the points your negotiators had raised.

Despite the industrial action being suspended we have remained in dispute while seeking an agreeable settlement. LUL have since confirmed that they are unwilling for talks to progress under the auspices of ACAS, and instead are imposing Night Tube duties rosters.

Your National Executive Committee has considered the report from your lead officer and their decision is as follows: -

“We note the report from our lead officer. RMT will oppose the imposition of Night Tube duties onto the main Train Operator rosters and we call on LUL to enter into immediate meaningful discussions to resolve this issue. This union will not stand by while LUL imposes unacceptable working arrangements from 26 November

RMT has a live mandate to take strike action over this matter and the General Secretary is now instructed to place before us a report on what forms of strike action our Train Operator representatives wish to take to oppose this imposition by LUL.

Relevant members to be informed by text and email. LTRC and branches to be
informed.”

In accordance with the decision a meeting of your representatives will be taking place and a further update provided to your NEC. I will of course keep you updated with all further developments in this matter.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch
General Secretary
