More Strikes on EDF Powerlink

RMT Head Office Circular No. IR/18/09 - 29th January 2009 CLAIM FOR PARITY PAYMENTS – EDF POWERLINK NOTICE OF FURTHER STRIKE ACTION

Further strike action has been called in support of the above dispute. I am informed that this follows direct consultation with RMT members concerned and that this has their backing.

Members have been instructed as follows:

TO NOT book-on for any turns of duty between the following dates and times:

• 19.59 hours on Sunday 1st February 2009 and 07.59 on Monday 2nd February 2009 • 19.59 hours on Wednesday 4th February 2009 and 07.59 on Thursday 5th February 2009 • 19.59 hours on Wednesday 11th February 2009 and 07.59 on Thursday 12th February 2009 • 19.59 hours on Sunday 15th February 2009 and 07.59 on Monday 16th February 2009 • 19.59 hours on Sunday 22nd February 2009 and 07.59 on Monday 23rd February 2009 • 19.59 hours on Sunday 1st March 2009 and 07.59 on Monday 2nd March 2009

EDF do not want to concede this claim outside of the normal pay negotiations. This is why they’ve been digging their heels in up to now. But this is not a situation we can accept. The claim the union is making is one of parity. We are not seeking anything that hasn’t already been paid out to others in similar circumstances. We are merely asking the employers to right a wrong.

EDF have been hugely inconvenienced by action taken up to now and it’s unlikely they’ll be able to cope with much more. I have therefore urged our EDF members to stand firm and support the action. This is a dispute we are determined to win.

Yours sincerely

Bob Crow GENERAL SECRETARY
