Alstom Train Maintenance Workers At Stratford Market Depot To Take Strike Action Following 100% Yes Vote

Strike action has been cancelled.

circular logoThis is an official RMT circular - IR/20/10 dated 21st of January 2010, from General Secretary Bob Crow.

I regret to inform you that despite extensive negotiations, management have dug in their heels and have failed to make sufficient movement towards our quite legitimate claim for parity of pay for our Alstom members at Stratford Market Depot with other Fleet Maintenance Staff employed elsewhere on the Underground.

Last December, members voted 100% in favour of both strike action and action short of a strike. This ballot is still valid as the company entered into an extension of ballot agreement with us last year. We hoped this would enable fruitful negotiations, but it now seems that Alstom merely wanted to put off a problem.

We must now, therefore use our mandate and our members concerned have been advised to take industrial action as detailed below.

First 24 Hour Strike

This will take place between 19.29 Hours on Wednesday 27th January and 19.28 hours on Thursday 28th January 2010. Members have been instructed not to book-on for any turns of duty between these times.

Further 24 Hour Stoppages

These will take place every weekend from Sunday night into Monday morning. The first of these will take place between 19.29 hours on Sunday 31st January and 19.28 hours on Monday 1st February 2010. Again members have been asked not to book on for any turns of duty between these times.

  • Exactly the same will then apply on every other Sunday night to Monday morning thereon after until further notice.

Continuous work to rule and overtime ban

This will be in operation from 00.01 hours on Wednesday 27th January 2010. From that date and time, members will not work any overtime and must work strictly to the rules on a continuous basis and until further notice.

I am confident that our members at Stratford Market Depot will faithfully carry out the industrial action called of them. I will report further as soon as I am able.
