Update for Taxi members

From Daniel Bedford, Communication Officer, RMT London Taxi Branch

Dear Colleague,

If you have not already done so please take time to register and have a look at http://www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk for all the latest news from the RMT London region, special thanks to Janine Booth for coming to our most recent branch meeting and talking about this and other matters that affect the London region.

On the home page of London Calling you will see a short article about the RMT lobby of parliament last week, although this was a rail safety issue, it is the RMT London taxi branch whose photos can be seen on the page, the rail regulator has now stepped into this matter which is a step in the right direction (it seems they probably don't really want the RMT turning up in large numbers at parliament very often,to be honest) by working together the various branches within the different aspects of London transportation can ensure that London is made a safer place thanks to the efforts of the RMT and it's activists.

Bob Crow, RMT General Secretary, said: We welcome the intervention of the rail regulator in response to the RMT dossier and clearly Network Rail should call an immediate halt to the cuts process that has already left many depots short of staff as vacancies have been left unfilled. RMT will continue to collect reports from our members on the ground and will feed this in to the ORR and the Government to reinforce the safety case against these cuts. We have no doubt that the impact of slashing safety-critical maintenance staffing levels to the bone will have fatal consequences if Network Rail are allowed to get away with their plans.
