Protect the right to strike! What we do next - TUC Organising Call and date for National Day of Action

On Monday thousands of trade unionists and workers descended on the UK Parliament to protest the Conservative Government's draconian new anti-strike Bill and send a clear message to the Government that we will relentlessly fight this fundamental attack on our democratic and human rights to withdraw our labour.

I would like to thank each and every one of you that turned out for the Emergency Demo and for the continued support of those that couldn't make it.

I wanted to share some next steps for us to take over the coming days and weeks to continue to fight the anti-strike bill

·Wednesday 1st February - TUC Day Of Action to Protect The Right To Strike

The TUC will hold a national 'Protect the right to Strike' day on Wednesday 1st February. Following the news that our Train Driver members will be taking strike action on the 1st and 3rd February I would encourage everyone to get to a picket line, and to support local TUC rallies and events

The TUC will be holding rallies in the following places:

  • Newcastle, Middlesborough (times tbc)
  • Cumbria (times and location tbc)
  • Birmingham 6.30pm
  • Nottingham 6.30pm
  • Plymouth 6:30pm
  • Locations across the south and east of England  
  • Cardiff
  • Edinburgh/Glasgow (STUC co-ordinating)
  • Further locations tbc

Rail union RMT, has condemned Avanti West Coast for running stations with low staffing levels, warning that cuts and unfilled vacancies are putting both passengers and staff potentially at risk.

Rail union, RMT has called for cuts to the British Transport Police (BTP) to be reversed and for urgent action to deliver a safer, properly policed railway following the horrific mass stabbing last Saturday.
Thursday, 6th November
RMT is taking its campaign to protect transport workers from losing their UK visa status directly to the Prime Minister on Friday.
Wednesday, 5th November
Rail union, RMT has welcomed government legislation going through Parliament tomorrow which will establish Great British Railways (GBR).
