What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

New ballot called on W&C to comply with Tory anti-union laws

REMOVAL OF DETRAINMENT STAFF, WATERLOO, WATERLOO & CITY LINE - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/14/10)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/456/18, 18th October 2018), members at Leytonstone Traincrew Depot are commended for the solidarity and support have shown in protest at the removal of detrainment staff from the Waterloo and City Line at Waterloo Station. The industrial action to refuse to enter the sidings to reverse until the train has been physically checked and doors closed on porter buttons is ongoing but due to changes to balloting legislation in the 2016 Trade Union Act, the current mandate for action will expire on Thursday 14th February 2019.

As this dispute remains unresolved the National Executive Committee has taken the decision to conduct a re-ballot. Ballot papers will be posted to members on Wednesday 16th January 2019 and the closing date for the ballot is Thursday 31st January 2019. If any member does not receive their voting paper, or knows of a colleague who has not received it, please call the freephone helpline on 0800 376 3706, RMT Head Office on 0207 387 4771 to ask for the Industrial Relations Department or e-mail info@rmt.org.uk to request a replacement.

I will keep Branches advised of all further developments

Yours sincerely,

Mick Cash
General Secretary
