What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

Joint Union Statement Calls For Tube Lines Pensions Parity

We note the response to the joint statement from all four trade unions advocating that all Tube Lines employees be allowed to join the TfL Pension Scheme. While we are pursuing our demand for pensions equality through a dispute and negotiations with Tube Lines, we believe that it is valid for the Working Group to support our position based on the strength of the Scheme and affordability, and instruct the General Secretary to reply accordingly.

We further note the correspondence from London Underground Ltd attaching a circular entitled 'Proposed operating model for APD and Tube Lines', which appears to outline further moves towards integration of LUL and Tube Lines. We reiterate our stance that Tube Lines should be fully integrated into LUL, which specifically should include all workers becoming direct employees of LUL, with equal terms and conditions, including pensions and passes.

It is not enough for management of functions to be integrated but the workforce to remain divided and unequal. We instruct the General Secretary to reply seeking answers to these points.

We further instruct the General Secretary to ensure that the remaining instructions included in our decision of 22 January are carried out.

London Transport Regional Council, branches and Tube Lines representatives to be advised.
