Meeting with British Transport Police 

I met with the Chief Constable and other representatives of British Transport Police (BTP) yesterday afternoon.

At this meeting, BTP emphasised their commitment to protect the safety and wellbeing of passengers and railway staff during the current country-wide wave of violence fuelled by the far right.

UPDATE: FAR-RIGHT VIOLENCE

Further to my earlier circular today (NP/196/24) we have become aware that there could be further demonstrations planned by far-right groups aimed at mosques and refugee centres in the coming week.

We are therefore asking members where possible to be in contact with their local mosques, refugee centres and solidarity groups to offer our union's solidarity and support on the ground at a time when they face severe threats and intimidation.

ELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE

NATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE

JANUARY 2022 – DECEMBER 2024: REGION 11 BY-ELECTION: RESULT

Further to Head Office Circular NP/151/24, dated 21st June 2024, I can report that Richard Estevao (Piccadilly and District West Branch) has been elected unopposed to fill the above vacancy.

Richard’s period of office for this post will be immediate until 31st December 2024.

REMOVAL OF DETRAINMENT STAFF - LONDON UNDERGROUND

The National Executive Committee has considered this matter and congratulated all members for continuing the mandate for action in this dispute.

The NEC has taken the decision to instruct all members on the Bakerloo Line, District Line, Central Line, Hammersmith & City Line, Jubilee Line and Victoria Line to continue taking part in industrial action to physically check their train before detraining until further notice

RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2024 - LONDON UNDERGROUND

RMT submitted a pay claim to LUL in April and last week your Lead Officer and negotiating team attended pay talks with LUL. At the meeting, a verbal offer was made to increase rates of pay by 3%. However, pay bands would remain frozen and any member whose pay rises above the top of their band would receive only a non-consolidated payment for any salary above the band. The negotiating team unanimously found this offer to be unacceptable.

I refer to my previous email of 24th June 2024, as previously reported due to our members resolve to fight to protect their past and future final salary pension rights, management and Government decided to delay their proposal to begin a consultation period in respect of any proposed reform the TfL Pension Fund no later than 1st July 2024.

DEFENDING JOBS, PENSIONS & AGREEMENTS - LONDON UNDERGROUND

I refer to my previous email of 26th July 2023, as previously reported due to our members resolve to fight to protect their past and future final salary pension rights, management and Government decided to delay their proposal to begin a consultation period in respect of any proposed to reform the TfL Pension Fund no later than 1st July 2024.

REMOVAL OF DETRAINMENT STAFF - LONDON UNDERGROUND

All Train Operator and Instructor Operator members on the Bakerloo Line, District Line, Central Line, Hammersmith & City Line, Jubilee Line and Victoria Line have been taking action to physically check their train before detraining. Now due to the anti-trade union laws, this ballot mandate will expire and it is necessary to ballot members again for this action to continue.

I have produced a leaflet here and would ask you to circulate the leaflet as widely as possible.
