UPDATE: FAR-RIGHT VIOLENCE

Further to my earlier circular today (NP/196/24) we have become aware that there could be further demonstrations planned by far-right groups aimed at mosques and refugee centres in the coming week.

We are therefore asking members where possible to be in contact with their local mosques, refugee centres and solidarity groups to offer our union's solidarity and support on the ground at a time when they face severe threats and intimidation.

UN ANTI-RACISM DAY DEMONSTRATIONS - 19 & 20 MARCH 2022

To commemorate the UN Anti-Racism Day there will be international protests taking place in cities around the world under the slogan 'World Against Racism & Fascism'. We need to play our part mobilising the anti-racist majority in big numbers to challenge Johnson's racist offensive and the union is supporting the joint events organised by the TUC and Stand Up to Racism over the weekend of 19-20 March 2022:

George Floyd’s death is an indictment of entrenched racism within state forces. Racism has always and continues to inflict injustices on the black communities, not only in the US but also globally and in the UK.

Now is not the time for silence - we must shout our anger in the call for justice. The State must not be a tool for the expression of racism and hatred.

As trade unionists we stand united against state racism. No to silence, no to police brutality. Justice for all. Unity is strength.

March against racism

21 March is United Nations Anti-Racism Day. Stand Up to Racism, to which RMT is affiliated, are organising demonstrations in London and Glasgow to mark this day and to protest at the rise of mass support for racist and fascist forces worldwide.

The Glasgow demo is titled ‘March against Racist Johnson’ and is supported by unions from across Scotland. It will begin at 11am in St George’s Square.

The London demo is titled ‘March against Racism’ and will set off from Portland Place, London W1A at noon.

21 days of anti-racism

RMT London Transport Regional Council’s Black Solidarity Committee is organising 21 days of anti-racism events and activities.
