RMT Appalled At Fingerprinting Plan For Cleaners

We note the report of the well-attended meeting of our London Underground / Tube Lines ISS representatives on 20 February 2013.

The meeting identified several attacks on working conditions in addition to pay issues:

  • ‘Bradford Factor’ attendance rules
  • new rostering, extending the unpaid break in the middle of the shift from 30 minutes to 45, 60 or even 75 minutes
  • biometric booking on, including for agency staff

Tube Lines Strike Suspended

We note the report on file from our lead officer and in line with the unanimous view of our Company
Council representatives, we instruct the General Secretary to suspend the industrial action (strike and
overtime ban) due to start on Friday 15 February.

We note that Tube Lines is to cost our demands for pension and travel equality by the end of March.

Joint Union Statement Calls For Tube Lines Pensions Parity

We note the response to the joint statement from all four trade unions advocating that all Tube Lines employees be allowed to join the TfL Pension Scheme. While we are pursuing our demand for pensions equality through a dispute and negotiations with Tube Lines, we believe that it is valid for the Working Group to support our position based on the strength of the Scheme and affordability, and instruct the General Secretary to reply accordingly.

Tube Lines Bosses Consider Reps Roster

We note the report from our lead officer on file, that management are considering an alternative roster
submitted by our representative. We instruct the General Secretary to place management’s response in front of us when received, together with the views of our representatives.

Your Right To Be Paid Annual Leave During Sickness

In my circular No NP/185/12 dated 10th August 2012 (Sick Workers and Annual Leave Ref: LA/185/12) I set out members’ entitlement to receive payment or carry over their leave entitlement where they had been unable to take this due to illness.

This was as a result of the decision of the Court of Appeal that, regardless of whether a worker is employed by a public or private employer, if a worker is unable or unwilling to take the four weeks’ annual leave conferred by regulation 13 of the Working Time Regulations owing to sickness (i) he or she must be allowed to take it at another time

Tube Lines Pays Increased Christmas Bonus

We note the correspondence from Tube Lines, advising us that members who volunteered to work on Christmas Day and New Year's Day would be paid £333, more than originally intended.

Having consulted with the secretaries of the two branches involved, we note the position.

More Reps For Tube Lines Members

We note the report from our Regional Organiser and the support of our Company Council representatives, and accordingly endorse the increased level of representation.

We instruct the General Secretary to immediately advise the company of our acceptance, and to write to our Tube Lines members informing them of this improvement in RMT’s representation.
