Station supervisor conference re cleaning issues

This resolution, submitted by Finsbury Park branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

This branch notes the concerns expressed by our station members about the effects of the cutback on station cleaners on cleaners' workload, levels of cleanliness and attendant health and safety issues.

We call on the regional council to organise a meeting of station reps and supervisors to discuss this issue.

Demonstrate in Solidarity with Tube Cleaners

Demonstrate in solidarity with Tube cleaners at Mayor's Question Time on Wednesday 15 October, City Hall, 10-11am

Meet outside City Hall (by the river between London Bridge and Tower Bridge).

The Mayor is the chair of Transport for London. At Mayor's Questions in July, he smugly promised that Metronet cleaners would receive a living wage by August.

Metronet contractors Initial and ICS are still either not paying the London Living Wage, or only paying it in part.

The protest will also highlight the unjust use of immigration law during the dispute.

Representation in service control grades

This resolution, submitted by Stratford no.1 branch, was passed at the October 2008 meeting of the Regional Council

=====

Due to recent changes and anomalies in the representation of controllers/service managers within Service Control, this branch requests that the regional council adopts the following rule changes as a workable temporary arrangement until the time that the executive can produce a new set of rules.

As local representatives do not exist in the Controller/Service Manager grades within Service Control.

Building an RMT Young Members' group in London Transport

The London Transport region of the RMT recently held a training day for young members who want to become more active in the union. A Young Members' group has been setup and a Regional Young Members' officer has been elected.

The Young Members' group wishes to inspire members of the RMT under 30 to become more actively involved in the union. We have already started this by visiting depots and other workplaces, asking various young members what would get them involved in the union. Because of this activity some young members are becoming active for the first time.

A message to drivers: Prepare for pay fight!

by Vaughan Thomas, RMT Trains Council

National and local media often accuse Tube drivers of being overpaid and under worked. Whenever we have a dispute they trot out the old refrain that a trained monkey could do our job, and it’s about time that the Mayor took on the unions! Flogging’s too good for the likes of us!

They compare us to underpaid workers in the emergency services: the nurses, paramedics and firefighters and say we should be grateful for what we’ve got. How dare we ask for more!
