ACAS Code of Practice 3: Time off for trade union duties and activities

This is the ACAS Code of Practice on time off for trade union duties and activities. Have a read through to check that you are getting the rights to which you are entitled.

Introduction

1. Under section 199 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) has a duty to provide practical guidance on the time off to be permitted by an employer: (a) to a trade union official in accordance with section 168 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992; and

Update: LUL and TfL Pay

LUL Management seems to have got themselves in a twist over the 2009 pay.

RMT have demanded a substantial one year pay rise and other benefits, including a ‘floor’ salary of £26,000. Heating and food bills have gone right up over the last year and Underground passenger numbers are higher than ever.

EDF power workers on London Tube to strike for third time

RMT SHIFT workers responsible for fault-finding and maintaining the electrical supply to London’s Tube will begin their third 36-hour strike on Christmas night in a dispute over employer EDF Energy Powerlink’s refusal to concede a claim for pay-parity with permanent day workers.

Some 25 RMT 'shift testers', who work both night and day shifts, will not book on for turns that commence between 19:59 on Christmas night, December 25, and 07:59 on Saturday (December 27).

RMT Members Elect New London Transport Regional Organiser

RMT members have elected Steve Hedley as our new London Transport Regional Organiser.

The result was as follows: 12,724 ballot papers were issued, 3071 (24%) were returned. 1,772 (58%) voted for Steve Hedley; 1,292 (42%) for Neil Hodgson.

Oliver New, our region's representative on the RMT Executive, said: "Congratulations to Steve Hedley who has been elected Regional Organiser by the members of the LT Region. Now let's unite against the bosses in 2009!"

Docklands Light Railway control staff ballot over imposed rosters

MEMBERS OF Britain's biggest rail union working in the control room of Docklands Light Railway are being balloted for industrial action over the imposition of new rosters.

The RMT ballot, which closes on December 22, follows Serco Docklands' unilateral decision to replace 12-hour weekend shifts with eight-hour duties, which will deprive around 30 staff of 24 rest days a year.
