Burston Strike School Rally

Venue: Church Green, Burston, near Diss, Norfolk

Bob Crow writes ...

I would like to encourage all activists to attend this year’s commemoration of the Burston Strike School. The RMT wishes to have as large a presence as possible at this important event in the trade union calendar.

We will commemorate the longest strike in history, and celebrate the people who continue to fight for trade union rights, working class education, democracy in the countryside, and international solidarity.

A Delegate's Report from RMT AGM

This is my personal report on the RMT AGM, which has also been published in 'Solidarity' newspaper, and on Stroppyblog.

Rail and transport union RMT held its annual general meeting from 28 June to 2 July, against a backdrop of employers attacking jobs and conditions across the industry.

The AGM was unanimously determined to resist these attacks. However, thousands of job cuts are going ahead, several strike ballots have been voted down, and it was not entirely clear how the union plans to turn this situation around.

'RMT Platform', 14 August 2009: Your Job Under Threat

newsletterThe new issue of our 'RMT Platform' newsletter itemises London Underground management's attacks on stations jobs, and reveals statistics that show just how mean LUL's pay offer really is. You can read all issues of 'RMT Platform' here.

It tells staff your rights regarding cancellation of overtime, and taking grievances against managers.

'RMT Platform' also reports on:

Protest: Stop the BNP's 'Red White and Blue' festival

Anti-fascismMore information here.

Coaches will take protesters from London to Codnor, Derbyshire. RMT's London Transport Regional Council will fund members to travel to the protest on coaches organised by other bodies eg. Trades Councils.

Barnet TUC has booked a 33 seat coach, which is scheduled to pick up in Finchley Central then Edgware, before travelling to Codnor to reach there at 11am. They expect to leave Codnor at about 4pm.

Training Workshop: Agreements

LUL Stations & Revenue Council rep Mick Crossey and Trains Council rep Vaughan Thomas will run a training workshop on Agreements - why they are important, and understanding what they say.

As we fight to defend our agreements from employers intent on ripping them up, it is essential that our reps and activists understand their importance. And in reps’ day-to-day work for members, you need to know how to work out what rights they give to your members.

RMT calls for full support for Vestas day of action

OFFSHORE ENERGY UNION RMT today called for full support for a day of action in support of the Vestas wind turbines factory campaign which will be marked by events up and down the country tomorrow (Wednesday August 12).

RMT, which represents a substantial block of the Vestas workforce, is continuing to support the fight to get the Isle of Wight factory back into production and is sending out a clear signal that the campaign for wind turbine manufacture in England is far from over.

RMT Pay Claim for Medical Redeployment

As part of the RMT pay claim this year it was proposed that medical redeployment would mean that any member of staff who was for medical reasons unable to do their current job would be given at least one other job offer. Management have agreed to discuss this with us. The same proposals were forwarded by other unions. The only union that did not submit medical redeployment as part of their pay claim was ASLEF.
