Christmas and New Year Arrangements

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the correspondence from UK Power Networks Services outlining arrangements for Christmas and New Year cover.

We instruct the General Secretary to forward this letter to our representatives and LU Engineering branch requesting their comments. Replies to be placed in front of us.

RMT Accepts UK Power Networks Services Pay Offer

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the referendum result is as follows:-

Total votes cast: 31
Number voting “Yes”: 19
Number voting “No”: 12
Spoilt Papers: 0

We also note that Unite has already accepted this pay offer.

We instruct the General Secretary to advise the company of our acceptance.

London Transport Regional Council and LU Engineering branch to be advised.

RMT Rail Renewals Campaign - Includes LU Track Contractors' charter

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note that a further meeting of our steering group has taken place and that a summary report of the survey among our Renewals members is on file. We also note that the work on the RMT Track Contractors Charter for London Underground is progressing and is about to be launched.

The General Secretary is instructed as follows:

  • To provide any practical and material support and assistance that may be required by our London Underground Engineering Branch for a successful launch of the Charter;

Progress on Central Line Asbestos

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the correspondence from our LU Engineering branch, reporting that major progress has been made in negotiating a safer system of work for track workers in this area, although there are outstanding concerns regarding non-track project staff and the potential of complacency creeping in.

Use of Fingerprint Machines and Vehicle Transport - Emcor Rail (LU Contract)

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

That we note the resolution from our LU Engineering branch and the report from our Regional Organiser, and our members’ strong objection to Emcor Rail’s attempt to undermine their civil liberties by using fingerprint technology for booking in and out and surveillance of our members by vehicle trackers.

Track Workers' Charter

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We endorse the Track Contractors’ Charter drafted by our LU engineering reps to form part of our Rail Renewals forum, and instruct the General Secretary to ensure that it is printed promptly and in sufficient quantities.

We note that the Council of Executives has already agreed reduced-rate subs for these workers, and that the branch has an effective campaign plan. We look forward to a successful campaign to recruit to RMT, achieve recognition, and win improvements for these workers.
