What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

RMT Refutes ISS Claim That Union Agreed Fingerprint Book On

We note the correspondence from ISS and the report from our Regional Organiser. We refute the employer’s claim that this union ever agreed to biometric booking-on in any form.

Indeed, we note that our decision Gww 9 July 2013 stated that “We reiterate that we are completely opposed to fingerprinting and other biometric booking on procedures, as these infringe on our members’ civil liberties and threaten jobs”; and that our decision Gww 31 May 2013 "INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS ISSUES – NEW TUBE LINES CONTRACT – ISS" stated that “not all our demands have been met in full, and we resolve to continue to pursue the issues of biometric entry systems and the delay to payment of the London Living Wage”.

We instruct the General Secretary to reply to ISS demanding it retract this claim; to place in front of us a report of the meeting held on 24 July 2013; and to press ahead with our industrial action ballot without delay.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.
