What is a National Executive Committee decision?

This article is an 'executive decision' which has been written by the RMT National Executive Committee. The National Executive is the union's governing body in between AGMs. Its decisions set out what the union will do on a particular issue.

These decisions can often be brief, and may be one of several passed over a period of time. To get a better understanding or find out more information about what the RMT is doing, speak to your rep or attend your branch or Regional Council meeting.

DLR Members Urged To Vote Yes To Strike In Dispute With New Bosses

TRANSFER OF DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY CONTRACT FROM SERCO TO KEOLIS/AMEY DOCKLANDS (K.A.D.) (DLR/15/10)

As DLR members will be aware, we have recently been in discussions with the Companies regarding the awarding of the Docklands Light Railway contract to Keolis/Amey Docklands, due to commence from 6th December 2014. The arrangements relating to this change in the employer were discussed in detail and a number of concerns were raised by the Union. The response given from the Companies was not sufficient to resolve these issues and as a result, a request was received from the RMT Docklands Light Railway Branch that members are balloted for strike action.

This matter was considered by the General Grades Committee and Serco has now been advised that a dispute situation exists between our organisations over members’ objection to the change in the identity of their employer due to the detrimental effect this would have on terms and conditions.

I strongly urge all DLR members to VOTE ‘YES’ FOR STRIKE ACTION to fight against this direct attack affecting the entire workforce on the Docklands Light Railway. The ballot papers will be posted to affected members on Thursday 13th November and the closing date for this ballot is Thursday 27th November 2014. I will keep you informed of all further developments.
