Movements Committee Director's Meeting Update
RMT Upfront is the newsletter for London Underground drivers, from the RMT. In this edition, which focuses on health and safety issues:
Please distriubute the newsletter in your depot, or share it online with your colleagues.
Your Health & Safety commitee reps have recently attended a meeting with Learning and development with regard to changes to the Continuous Development Program. We were initially concerned that management were going to try to cut / water it down. This appears not to be on the cards at the moment. Although we still have issues with a number of lines only getting the 4 day rather than the 5 day to complete this vital refresher training.
The RMT have written to London Underground and TfL demanding a freeze on redeployment.
We have a number of RMT members who are in the redeployment pool, with the clock ticking down for them to find a new role within 13 weeks.
Tube bosses are leaving stations unstaffed during traffic hours. It will come as no surprise to those of us who work on the Tube, but the 'revelation' was described as an exclusive by BBC London News today.
The BBC report states that:
"Four years ago today Transport for London (TfL) announced all London Underground ticket offices would be shut.
We note the resolution from our LU Engineering Branch regarding the appalling treatment of our members in Asset Operations when it comes to recognising the severe impact that Christmas working has on family life.
We also note that payments are available for all or part of this period in other areas such as Major Projects, Tube Lines and for Train Drivers and this NEC agree with our branches demand at least parity and recognition for working these days.
Let nobody be in any doubt - this is a fantastic result for Danny. Having been sacked for an alleged offence that certainly didn’t merit dismissal, Danny was looking at a bleak future for himself and his family. On appeal he was given a position as a CSA2, but after a formal request from the RMT Regional Organiser to the HR Director Danny was moved to a CSA1 position. Then the result of the RMT ballot for strike action came back and suddenly the landscape changed.

A Night Tube Driver was seriously assaulted at Stanmore at 04.30 on Sunday morning (5th November). The driver was changing ends to move the train from reception road 33 to sidings road 27. Whilst changing ends the driver was assaulted by five or six youths and had spray paint sprayed on his face.
The youths also took the drivers radio.
We congratulate our stations members on mounting a convincing dispute and strike action against the company’s Fit For the Future/Stations re-organisation, and enabling our Reps and Lead Officer to do a great job through negotiations in repairing the damage done to the safety, staffing and general running of tube stations; including putting back 325 jobs.
