As rail industry announces inquiry into whether to end outsourcing of train and station cleaning new report reveals cleaners don’t have enough staff to do jobs properly and ending outsourcing would improve standards.

Almost half the cleaners working on Britain’s rail network believe they don’t have enough staff to do their jobs properly whilst a majority say that their employers put profits before public health and passengers would benefit more if cleaners were employed in-house rather than being outsourced, according to a new report published by RMT today.

RMT London Transport Regional Council have voted to support Cleaners United, a cross-union network initiated by a workers’ rights NGO and involving PCS, IWGB, and others.

Cleaners United is promoting a questionnaire about cleaners’ conditions.

Poll of London Labour politicians finds overwhelming support to end privatisation of Tube cleaning in wake of COVID – 19 pandemic

In the week that London Mayor Sadiq Khan made a firm manifesto commitment to explore bringing the London Underground’s multi – million-pound cleaning contract in house, a new poll of London Labour councillors has found overwhelming support to end the privatisation of the tube cleaning when the current contract ends in 2022.
