RMT blasts TfL for calling on staff in South African variant postcodes to come into work as normal.
RMT has written to TfL Commissioner Andy Byford condemning its guidance that workers in postcodes being targeted for surge testing aimed at bringing the South African variant of Covid19 to heel, should come into work as normal.

TFL PENSION FUND - INDEPENDENT REVIEW
You will be aware that the RMT sent an email to our LUL members on 4th January 2021 outlining our disgust and opposition to the findings of the Independent Panel Review in respect of the TfL Pension Fund. As you will recall the Independent Panel Review makes the assumption that the TfL Pension Fund is expensive, outdated and must be reformed, a suggestion that this union totally rejects.

Further to my previous Circular (IR/007/1/21, 8th January 2021), the following resolution was received from Piccadilly & District West Branch:-
“This Branch notes that despite the RMT concerns over safety and preparedness, LU management decided to plough ahead with the operational proving weekend on the 9th and 10th January.
RMT on shocking new ONS figures on COVID mortality rates amongst bus and taxi drivers
Commenting on today’s ONS figures which showed that male bus and coach drivers and male taxi drivers are two of the occupational groups with high rates of Covid-19 deaths, RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:
“ These figures are a tragic reminder of the risks faced by the UK’s frontline transport workers.
MATS FUNCTIONAL COUNCIL REPRESENTATION, TUBELINES GRADES - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/20/2)
The Lead Officer recently submitted a report regarding LUL's intention to remove members from the TubeLines Machinery and place them into the MATS Council for the purpose of collective bargaining. This move follows the reorganisation of grades covered by both the LUL Machinery of Negotiation and also the TubeLines Machinery of Negotiation, but has not been agreed by RMT.
IMPOSITION OF ROSTER, SCL2s, HAMMERSMITH SERVICE CONTROL CENTRE - LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/8/2)
The Lead Officer recently submitted a report as, despite the best efforts of our RMT Reps to reach a negotiated settlement, management have proceeded to impose a new roster, which is due to be implemented in March 2021, affecting members on the Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City Lines at Hammersmith Service Control Centre.
RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said;
“This Financial Sustainability Plan is a massive missed opportunity and a capitulation to Tory austerity. TfL could have used this moment to aggressively make the case for setting its funding on a completely new basis, recognising the failure of fare box model and making the case for public funding that recognises the public interest in London’s mass transit system.

LONDON TRANSPORT UNION RMT today wrote to London Mayor Sadiq Khan demanding that he come clean on what plans TfL are putting to the government in order to secure more funding in March.
As part of the deal made at the end of last year, Sadiq Khan agreed to submit to the DfT proposals for returning the body to ‘financial sustainability’ following the devastation of its finances by the Covid-19 pandemic. This plan was submitted to the DfT yesterday but unions have not yet seen them.
