Message Of Support To Transport Workers Union

The Transport Worker's Union New York chapter - 'Local 100' - which primarily represents members in New York's subway system, has advised members to enter stations at caution speed. The TWU explain that their have been 150 'one-unders' - or 12-9's, an average of three per week, none of which have been the fault of the train driver. By entering the station at caution speed the union believes lives can be saved and drivers spared the trauma of being involved in an incident.

The unions leaflet on the action is attached below

RMT Concerns About Test Train Operation At Wembley Park Resolved

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, explaining the situation regarding train testing at Wembley Park in November. No further action is required on this matter, but it reaffirms the importance of remaining vigilant regarding technological developments and testing that may be used as a pretext to attack jobs, conditions and safety.

We note that the two resolutions from London Transport Regional Council have already been dealt with by the GGC when they were submitted by branches.

London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.

Cubic Transportation Pay Offer Agreed

We note the report from our Regional Organiser, and having also consulted with our branch, we instruct the General Secretary to advise the company of our acceptance of the company’s final offer before the deadline for payment in time for Christmas.

We further instruct the General Secretary to ensure that a pay claim is submitted in line with union policy for 2013, and to obtain a plan for improving organisation of this workforce from our LU Engineering branch.

London Transport Regional Council, branches and our Cubic representative to be advised.

RMT In Dispute With LUL Over Poor Guidelines Regarding Clearing Snow From Platforms

From General Secretary Bob Crow

I write to advise branches that a formal complaint has been made to LUL on the subject of snow clearing and winter weather. The RMT Stations Safety Council has raised this as an issue with the company without resolution and has now exhausted the machinery. The Stations Safety Council has raised the following items with the ORR and the company:

  • Insufficient local, practical training packages are available and have not been delivered to staff.

REGIONAL ORGANISER VACANCY

RMT Demands An End To Agencies, With Workers Given Permanent Jobs Instead

We believe that railway employers are increasingly using agencies such as Trainpeople, in order to casualise the workforce, prepare for job cuts, and undermine our power to take effective strike action. The use of agencies is part of the employers’ and government’s strategy for pursuing the McNulty proposals.

We believe that every railway worker is entitled to a permanent, secure job. We therefore demand an end to the use of agencies, with their employees offered direct employment with the railway company at which they work.
