RMT Reps Discuss Central Line Asbestos Fears

RMT General Grades Committee decision:

We note that the meeting referred to in our decision of 6 October 2011 has yet to take place, due to the representatives not having been available. We instruct the General Secretary to write to Stratford no.1 branch advising that unless the representatives make themselves available soon, we will be unable to progress this matter; and to invite LU Engineering branch to send an appropriate representative to this meeting. A report of the meeting is to be placed in front of us once it has taken place.

We further note an article published by the International Business Times on 8 February, reporting that asbestos is “all over the place” on London Underground, specifically on the east end of the Central Line, which can be found on file. We note that having seen this article, our GGC member has received a request from a solicitor representing the widow of a mesothelioma victim requesting our assistance. We instruct the General Secretary to provide appropriate assistance to this solicitor.

This matter to be placed back in front of us in the event of any development. London Transport Regional Council and branches to be advised.
