The following resolution submitted by LU Engineering Branch and seconded by Central Line West was carried unanimously at the Regional Council meeting on 25th August.

This branch notes:
The 'Hacking' scandal has done far more than expose what a filthy rich, anti union, anti poor, bastard Murcdoch and News International are.
It has exposed that, even in 'democracies' like Britain, real power actually lies in unelected bodies among massive multi-national corporations and the state. It has, in an instant, exposed the corrupt relationship between the media, state and politicians.
Already senior Met police officers, Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson and anti terrorism unit John Yates and  media barons, including Rebekah Brooks, have felt the heat through resignations, police enquries and parliamentary enquiries. This is a process that is far from over and must continue.

This branch resolves:
We call on the Council of Executives to request our Parliamentary group of MPs lay down a EDM (or whatever suitable) calling for David Cameron's resignation. David Cameron, despite his excuses, must have known, (we contend, did know), of Andy
Coulson's central role in the scandal when he appointed him as his spin doctor. Cameron was specifically warned about Coulson by fellow politicians and journalists.
2)We additionally call on the regional political officer to write to Regional union officials/branch secretaries/reps across unions to launch a petition and campaign for Cameron's immediate resignation.
3)We call on the region to produce a badge and propaganda highlighting our disgust at News International and Murdoch and his corrupt friends. (A slogan to be agreed at Region).
