Disciplinary Action Against Arwyn Thomas

From Bob Crow, General Secretary

ArwynI write to all reps on London Underground concerning the case of Arwyn Thomas Train Operator at Morden and a long standing RMT activist who is being disciplined and we believe victimised by LUL.

The company’s case stands on the accusation that Arwyn verbally abused a Tube Lines manager who was working at Kennington Station gateline on a recent strike day. We totally refute this allegation and RMT has now had the opportunity to view the CCTV of that day and below you will see our findings.

1. Arwyn was accused of entering the Supervisors Office at Kennington. The CCTV footage actually shows Arwyn standing in the doorway the whole time. On trying to leave Arwyn was accosted by a Supervisor who began arguing with him before Arwyn calmly walked away.

2. Arwyn was alleged to have sworn at a Tube Lines GSM who was working in a CSA during a strike day. The CCTV clearly shows the GSM walking the length of five ticket gates to stand directly in front of Arwyn to prevent him from leaving. Arwyn then walked away from the GSM to avoid confrontation but was cornered again at the stairs to the platform. Blocked again, Arwyn calmly walked away.

It is quite clear from the evidence we have seen that Arwyn is being victimised and their case against him doesn’t hold water. As you will all be aware, we are balloting all Train Operator and Instructor Operator members at East Finchley, High Barnet, Golders Green and Morden for strike action and industrial action short of a strike in defence of Brother Thomas. The ballot closes on Tuesday 7th December and I urge you to encourage all affected members to bring back a strong and overwhelming “yes” vote.

Yours Sincerely

Bob Crow
General Secretary
