RMT to ballot Test Train Operators alongside sister union ASLEF

TEST TRAIN OPERATORS WORKING WITH NIRTs – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/14/1)

The Lead Officer has recently submitted a report regarding LUL’s proposal to roster Test Train Operators (TTOs) to support the Network Incident Response Teams (NIRTs), with TTOs driving trains involved with incidents attended by the NIRTs to a depot or sidings location to aid timely resumption of normal passenger service.

Following a year of discussions at local level, a failure to agree has been recorded but despite this position the Company has advised that it intends to implement these new arrangements in March. This matter has been considered by the National Executive Committee, which has taken the decision to enter into an immediate dispute situation alongside our sister union ASLE&F and to ballot our TTO members for strike action and action short of a strike. RMT will not accept LUL’s position to impose conditions on our members without following procedures and agreements between us to an amicable end.

The Company has been informed accordingly and ballot papers will be posted out to affected members on Wednesday 2nd March. The closing date for this ballot is Thursday 17th March 2016 and I will keep you advised of all further developments.
