RMT LGBT Members Social And Demo

In July, the RMT annual general meeting passed a motion on international LGBT rights: the time for us to take action is now.

In recent weeks, LGBT rights activists in Zimbabwe have reported a shocking rise in state-sponsored intimidation, arbitrary arrests, and beatings of Zimbabwean LGBT people. In August, the building of GALZ (Gays and Lesbians Zimbabwe) was raided and President Robert Mugabe’s riot police arrested 44 LGBT activists.

There's more on the dispicable attack on gay activists freedoms here.

HERE’S THE PLAN:

On Sunday 7th October, we’ll meet up from 2pm at the Royal Festival Hall (South Bank Centre) in the foyer seating area - same as our meet-up in February - the day before the National LGBT Advisory Committee meeting. This will give us the opportunity for a social meet-up.

At 4:00pm, we'll walk the short distance across Hungerford Bridge to the Strand where we’ll stage a demonstration outside the Zimbabwean Embassy (429 The Strand). We will hand out flyers to the passing public and deliver a letter of protest to the Embassy demanding an end to the police raids, beatings, threats, intimidation and arrests of LGBT Zimbabweans.

Demo done, we'll continue our social in nearby Soho.

I look forward to seeing you on 7th October.

YOURS IN SOLIDARITY,
