Every Job Matters

Every Job Matters - Defend London Underground Jobs

This is the RMT campaign to reverse the devastating job cuts that London Underground bosses want to impose on London Underground workers and Londoners.

RMT believe that we need an Underground that is adequately staffed to ensure an accessible, safe, reliable service, and that London need more good jobs not fewer. Today’s announcement takes London in the opposite direction.

The RMT is ready to fight these devastating cuts - the intention to ballot for industrial action has already been announced.

Devestating job cuts

London Underground has announced 950 jobs are to go.
  • every ticket office will close by 2015
  • nearly one thousand jobs on stations will go, with a net loss of 750 jobs
  • stations will be staffed when trains are running, which suggests that they may not have Supervisors present and may no longer be staffed when trains are not running at night
  • a thoroughgoing restructuring of station staffing, with all job roles changing and staff being re-evaluated for their own jobs

All ticket offices will be closed. Station assistants, ticket office workers (Station Assistant Multi-Functionals), station control room assistants and station supervisors will all see their jobs scrapped, and they will need to apply for the reduced number of new roles.

What the pay for these new roles is we don't yet know.

World class?

A modern - 'world class' railway needs more staff not fewer.

More staff are needed to operate the railway safely, to provide the assistance that some passengers - particularly those who are older or disabled - need; and to ensure the operation of a good train service for our passengers.
