Wembley Central station stand firm for safety in the workplace
Submitted by Bakerloo admin on Tue, 20/07/2010 - 06:19The new Health & Safety rep on the Wembley Central Group, Alan Foster has raised the issue of places of safety for staff on the gateline. On London Underground the standard place of safety is the GLAP. But when LU took over the control of the silver link stations north of Queens Park in 2007 none were put in. Management were quick enough off the mark to bring in gate lines to maximise revenue but the safety of the staff working the gate lines was deemed secondary.
Ten Reasons Why Revenue Staff Should Vote YES-YES to Save Jobs
Submitted by admin on Tue, 20/07/2010 - 12:59Click '1 attachment' / file name to download this as a 2-page leaflet.
1. Because the merging of the three revenue units into one was a prototype for these cuts. Look at the effects this has had: extremely low morale; higher stress levels; more disjointed, unrealistic workloads for management and admin. Imagine how bad it would be if this was spread to the rest of LUL.
2. Because ticket offices will be shut, passengers won't be able to sort out Oyster problems or buy tickets, so there will be an increase in assaults on staff.

Passengers Say: Staff Our Stations!
Submitted by admin on Sun, 09/05/2010 - 08:14
Here are some of the responses we have received from passengers to our 'Staff Our Stations' leaflets:
"White City Tube Station is very busy and well and is situated at the heart of a large residential community and serves a number of major businesses such as the BBC and Westfield Shopping Centre. I object most strongly to the proposed staff cuts at this station."

Average Call to Oyster Help Line Takes Nearly 11 Minutes
Submitted by Peter on Wed, 05/05/2010 - 15:23
A freedom of information request shows that it takes on average nearly 11 minutes to resolve a query for customers calling the Oyster Helpline.
Is this what TfL and LU see as staying true to their vision of world class customer service when discussing job cuts? Is 11 minutes on a telephone better service than a face to face chat with staff in a ticket office?
Special Safety Notice from the Stations and Revenue Safety Council
Submitted by Ross on Sun, 02/05/2010 - 15:10Last Thursday, 29th April, RMT reps from the Stations and Revenue Safety Council were asked to attend a special meeting to discuss safety issues from the OSP (Job cuts programme).
We attended the meeting and at the start made it clear that as this matter was still at company council we would not be prepared to discuss anything or sit through any presentation. We made it very clear that until LUL had gone through the proper machinary and way of doing things, that is how our position would remain. We then left the meeting

'Staff Our Stations': campaign at Liverpool Street
Submitted by admin on Mon, 26/04/2010 - 06:16Around 15 RMT members and supporters dished out hundreds of leaflets to Liverpool Street passengers on Friday lunchtime, explaining London Underground's plans to cut staff and ticket office service at their station.
All 500 leaflets were taken by passengers, many eager to read about the threat and support our campaign against it, and many of whom signed our petition:
New Procedures + Fewer Station Staff = Less Safety for Drivers
Submitted by admin on Sat, 24/04/2010 - 09:00Your Trains Health and Safety Council reps write ...
The recession bites as LU announces proposals to run trains without the need for station staff.
As LU announced jobs cuts for the station grades it was no coincidence that they simultaneously approached the Train’s Health and Safety Council (THSC) with what they called the ‘Operation Effectiveness Programme’ (OEP). If you are not yet familiar with this programme you better start asking questions because it proposes to change the role of the driver forever. And believe us, LU have not been lying awake at night and wondering how they can make the job better for you! Your roles and responsibilities will be drastically increased and in many case, we feel, safety will be compromised.
S.O.S. Campaign Goes to Liverpool Street
Friday 23rd of April 1pm (1300hrs) at Liverpool Street Station outside McDonald's
We will be gathering to leaflet the public with news about the planned jobs cull and invite them to sign the petition.
Please come along to show your support for the cause and make an impact!
A flyer to advertise the day is attached.
