30 Mile Walkathon in Support Of Brian Munro Cancer Fighting Fund

In support of the Brian Munro Cancer Fighting Fund; Paul Bowman is doing a sponsored walk from his home in Tonbridge to his old workplace depot and spiritual home - Elephant & Castle. Paul is walking from home: a total of 29 miles.

The general route will be along existing roads but he will also take a few footpath shortcuts, mainly between Sevenoaks and Bromley. Paul will walk through Tonbridge, Hildenborough, Sevenoaks, Dunton Green, Knockholt, Farnborough, Bromley, Downham, Catford, Brockley, Nunhead, Old Kent Road, then Elephant & Castle.

Steve DYNAMITE Duncan' is in a boxing match and proceeds from the sale of tickets will go to the Brian Munro Cancer Fighting Fund.

There will also be a raffle to raise money.

The Law Commission is currently reviewing all legislation relating to taxi and private hire vehicles. Whilst this review, which officials claim is designed to simplify the legislation, could potentially deregulate the industry and as such is a threat to members’ livelihoods, it also presents us with a number of opportunities.

The interim statement of the Law Commission does not commit to legally defining plying for hire, however, it does acknowledge that a two-tier system must remain in place.

The Trade Union Co-ordinating Group, which comprises of ten trade unions (BFAWU, FBU, NAPO, NUJ, NUT, PCS, POA, RMT, UCU and URTU) and represents over one million trade unionists throughout the UK, have invited RMT members to listen to the concerns of unions, lawyers and campaigning groups in relation to the current issues facing workers.

TWU America Young Workers Summit 2013

The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) had their first youth meeting in Washington DC a couple of months ago attracting 14 young workers, there they created a draft constitution (bylaws) in view of forming a young workers committee. Following this meeting they took on draft amendments.

LGBT PRIDE 2013 – LONDON 29 JUNE

Our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Advisory Committee are taking part in the annual Pride march in London on Saturday 29 June. An invitation is extended to all RMT members, friends and family, whatever sexuality, to join them and show solidarity for LGBT rights across the world.

Report on ETF Women's Conference

This report on the European Transport Workers Federation Women's Conference has been endorsed by the RMT Executive.

The ETF Women’s Conference (and Congress) met in Berlin in the 80th anniversary year of the Nazis’ storming of trade union offices and deportation of trade unionists to camps, and of the repression of LGBT venues and communities. There is a temporary display near the Brandenburg Gate on Unter den Linden, and I also visited the memorials to both Jewish and homosexual victims of the Holocaust.

Janine Booth's Legathon Extravaganza

This event has now taken place. In excess of £2300 was raised for the Brian Munro Cancer Fighting Fund, a planet destroying spaceship was built (out of lego), and lots of people had fun watching it all happen live

In a bid to generate donations for the Brian Munro Cancer Fighting Fund, Janine built a Lego Death Star - in a single sitting of around 20 hours.

We streamed the event live here, on 15th of June, between 4am and midnight.
