London Underground Pay Update - Offer Made

Your negotiating team met today (3rd April) with London Underground who made us a derisory pay offer of a one-year, RPI only deal, which works out as 2.5% based on the February 2019 figure. This offer was conditional on us removing all other aspects of our pay claim, for example a shorter working week, better work/life balance and improved travel facilities.

Effective Picketing

Attached is an updated useful guide for picketing - please download and share

ADVANCE PREPARATION

  • Choose in advance the best place(s) to picket. This should be where you will get best access to people arriving for work so you can persuade them not to go in. Try to cover all entrances.
  • In addition, you may choose to picket a location such as a busy station, where you can leaflet and speak to the public too.
  • Get members to volunteer to picket and to commit to a particular time slot.

Preparing for Industrial Action

KEEP PEOPLE INFORMED

We will be better prepared for any dispute if the workforce is already well-informed about the issue(s).

  • Keep noticecases up-to-date.
  • Give leaflets and newsletters to your workmates. Download material from www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk/downloads
  • Speak to people at work.
  • Make sure that they feel comfortable to ask questions and give their views.
  • Take concerns seriously; provide answers, even if means going away and finding out.
  • If you can, produce a leaflet or newsletter for staff in your workplace.

Refusal To Work on Safety Grounds During Tube Lines Strike

Tube Lines are responsible for the Emergency Response Unit that covers the entire network and is fundamental to the safe running of London Underground. To ensure your own safety and that of others during the period of industrial action you are advised to approach your management prior to carrying out your duties for assurances that a safe system of work is in place.

Resolution: London Underground Pay Dispute

The following resolution, submitted by Hammersmith and City branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was passed at the Regional Council meeting on 28 January 2010.

This Regional Council Condemns the General Grades Committee’s decision to settle the 2009/10 pay dispute.

The membership had returned a 2-1 vote in favour of strike action and a 5-1 vote in favour of action short of a strike.

This showed that our members were not in favour of this deal and also showed members did not accept LUL management lies, intimidation and propaganda.

Resolution: Conduct of London Underground Pay Dispute

The following resolution, submitted by LU Engineering branch and seconded by TfL no.1 branch, was passed at the Regional Council meeting on 28 January 2010.

This branch believes that the conduct of the recent dispute over pay raised some serious issues of democracy and integrity. This resolution seeks to improve the way in which the executive operates in future disputes. We demand that:

  • Once a decision to ballot has been made, the executive moves decisively to implementation
  • Communications with members and reps on the progress of negotiations is honest
