Resolutions to Regional Council - Conduct of London Underground Functional / Tier 2 Elections
Submitted by admin on Fri, 21/05/2010 - 09:06Stratford no.1 branch submits the following two (separate) proposals, which if accepted by the Regional Council Executive as valid, will go forward to the July meeting of the Regional Council.
1. That elections for single seats on these councils be conducted by branch block vote using the Alternative Vote system (rather than first-past-the-post, as at present).
2. That each branch's block vote in these elections shall be the number of members of that branch employed in the relevant function (rather than total branch membership, as at present).

Campaigning Against Job Cuts

A dozen RMT reps and activists leafleted passengers coming in and out of Bank station yesterday, Monday 12 April. They dished out hundreds of leaflets and invited people to sign RMT's petition against the job cuts. After just an hour, several sheets of the petition were full of names.
RMT will be appearing outside various stations over the coming weeks, giving out leaflets and collecting signatures. Keep checking back to this website for dates and details - and join us if you can!
Resolution: Petition Against £5 Minimum

This Regional Council resolves to organise a petition of all station staff against London Underground's policy of a minimum £5 Oyster top-up at the ticket office window.
Emergency resolution: Stations Job Cuts

This Regional Council deplores TfL's announcement of 700-800 stations jobs. We reaffirm RMT's determination to fight all job cuts, and resolve to step up implementation of the campaign plan that we passed late last year.
We resolve to run a high-profile public campaign against these job cuts, as well as fighting them through industrial action.

This region notes the attempted privatisation of TfL Occupational Health Service and wholly oppose the sell off our members rights to in-house occupational health services.
This is grave news as where this has happened in other parts of the railway industry it has lead to a reduction in treatment for our members and it also leads to a one way ticket to redundancy.

The men worked at First's Marsh Lane depot in Tottenham. They would charge between £1,500 and £2,500 to supply bogus test certificates and paperwork. Many of those who paid could not even speak English or even understand road signs.

This Regional Council applauds Bob Crow and those officials and members of RMT who have pledged their personal support to the Trade Unionists and Socialist Coalition at the next general election.
Training: Being an Effective Workplace RMT Rep

This workshop is a must for all workplace RMT representatives. Go through the basics of being an effective workplace representative if you are new in the post - and polish up your skills if you are long in the tooth!
This training workshop will look at:
- the various duties of a union rep
- where you can get help, advice and support
- how the machinery of negotiation works
- what a 'referral' is and how to fill one in
- the role of your branch and your grades committee
And there will be useful materials for you to take away with you.
RMT London Busworkers Meeting, Monday 8th February 2010
An RMT London Busworkers Committee meeting will take place on Monday 8th February 2010 between 5pm -7pm at The Bulstrode public house, 55, Lampton Road, Hounslow, TW3 1JG. The pub is situated next to Hounslow Central tube station.
Important recent developments and issues will be discussed at the meeting as well as an election taking place for convenors. All RMT members are welcome to attend.
National Busworkers Conference 2010
The 67th National Busworkers Conference will be held on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th April 2010, at the Elstead Hotel, 12-14, Knyveton Road, Bournemouth, BH1 3QP
The conference will be composed of duly elected delegates from branches with bus membership. Each branch with less than 100 members may send two delegates. Branches with more than 100 members may send two delegates for the first 100 members with one additional delegate for every 100 members or part thereafter.
Call for Special General Meeting on Legal Services

Finsbury Park branch passed the following resolution at its Annual General Meeting, requesting an RMT Special General Meeting about legal services, and has submitted it to the Regional Council for support. For the union to call such an SGM, other branches also need to support it. Stratford no.1 branch has already voted to do so. The Regional Council Executive endorsed this resolution on behalf of the Regional Council at its meeting on 9 February 2010.
How Job Cuts Plan Affects Us
Submitted by admin on Mon, 14/12/2009 - 18:01London Underground's plans for slashing station staffing - leaked last week by RMT - will directly affect Stratford no.1 branch station staff in two major ways. Firstly, virtually all our ticket offices will close, with shedloads of jobs lost. Secondly, Barkingside group will be disbanded and its stations reallocated to Leyton and Buckhurst Hill groups.

Our branch meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month. They begin at 1700 and generally run until 1900.
The meetings are held at 'The Ex-Servicemen’s Club' in Harvey Road, Leytonstone. This is approximately a two minute walk from Leytonstone underground station.
Fines Pool for 2010
Submitted by Superman on Sat, 05/12/2009 - 13:55It's time to join the RMT Fines Pool. The Fines Pool, which is operated on a yearly basis, starts on 1st January and ends on 31st December every year. The cost of membership of the Fines Pool is one payment of £5.00 per year.
There are a number of ways to join. You can join by filling in a joining form and pay by cheque or cash to the Fines Pool collector, who is usually your branch secretary or hand it in or send it with a cheque made payable to the RMT Fines Pool to Unity House.
